Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical

24 September 2023

Hmmmm...

Let's start with the good.
There were some pretty cool lighting effects.

Standout moments were the huge illuminated W which acted as the gates to the Wonka factory.
I also loved the 'TV' scenes, where the TV screens embeded in the trash flats flickered into life and were used by the news reader.

The Bucket's house.

However, Charlie Bucket couldn't sing, dance or act. The sound was poorly mixed - the volume was so loud it caused me to wince at points.

As well as this, I felt CGI and projection were overused in the second half, and made it seem cheap and poorly thought through.

Overall, I enjoyed bits of it, however I wouldn't go and see it again.
