My Desert Island Discs

I'm experimenting with Spotify embeds on this page. If you have any thoughts, or think I've missed a trick here, please drop me a message using the link above!

Over the last few weeks, I've been pondering a big, important question:

What tracks would I take to a desert island?

That's the question posed by BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, and it's an interesting one. Which eight songs do I love enough to be the only ones I ever listen to again?

I'm still pondering this, but I'm going to start to list these tracks below. Keep checking back to see which others I come up with!

The Eve of the War

I first heard Jeff Wayne's musical version of War to the Worlds on the radio about ten years ago! I instantly fell in love with it, and the soaring strings, echoing voices, and mesmerising melodies - it's an almost magical album. While I'd love to take the whole album with me, I would settle for just the first track.

Get Lucky

This has to be one of my all-time favourite songs! I've been lucky enough to see Nile Rodgers & Chic perform it live twice, and it never fails to disappoint! It's one of those songs that just puts you in a good mood, and I have a core memory of buying this for 99p in the departures terminal of Johannesburg International!

We Didn't Start the Fire

This Billy Joel classic is definitely coming with me. I have fond memories of this being played on Steve Wright's show, normally several times a week! It's a great tune, and I find it comforts me in this increasingly scary world.

Good Morning Baltimore

I love musicals, but I love Hairspray more than most. It's a great story, coupled with excellent songs and a cracking message. It's a far more worthwhile production than Grease, and the 2007 motion picture is also fab! I've watched it countless times, and the soundtrack is one I keep coming back to.

Mutual

Shawn Mendes is one of my favourite artists - sorry! He's my top artist on last.fm, and this track is one of my favourites. I've already listened to it hundreds of times, so what's a few more?!
