I was so excited for Beetlejuice, but came away a tad disappointed! It was still amazing fun, but the production as a whole didn't feel finished...
We saw the first matinee, the night after opening, so perhaps we had let ourselves in for it, but elements just didn't feel completely polished. It was a production full of pins - many sequences felt rushed and like they'd run out of time during rehearsal, and would return to fix the issues later. All entirely understandable, but underwhelming.
The overall vision and concept was great, and the design was predominantly good - although whoever decided to transition between scenes just by projecting fluttering bats onto the cyclorama should think again!
In summary, while I enjoyed it, it wasn't the slam dunk that I had hoped for!
